RAB has arrested Saidul Islam, the main accused in the murder case of college student Rabeya Akhtar, who broke into her house in Salna area of Gazipur. He was arrested from Bhuyapur area of Tangail on Wednesday.

Assistant Director of Law and Media Branch of RAB Headquarters ANM Imran Khan confirmed this information to Prothom Alo. He said that Saidul is being taken to Dhaka after his arrest.

Rabeya Akhter, a college student, was hacked to death in Salna area of Gazipur last Monday night. Rabeya's mother and three sisters were also cut and injured when they tried to stop her. His mother was later admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital.

Rabeya's father Abdur Rauf filed a case against Saidul in Gazipur Sadar Police Station. Rabeya Bhawal was a second year graduate student of Badre Alam Government College.

Rabeya's father Abdur Rauf said yesterday, "Saidul was our private teacher. He used to teach the Holy Quran to two young girls. When he proposed marriage to my elder daughter, we immediately said no. That is why he entered the house and hacked my daughter to death.

According to the statement of the case, Saidul entered Rabeya's house around 8:30 on Monday night and started hitting Rabeya's head, neck, hands and legs with a sharp weapon. When his mother and two sisters tried to stop him, Saidul also hit them and ran away. Local people rescued Rabeya in critical condition and took her to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital. The doctor declared him dead there that night.
